The material that inspired me while making Still Life was
soil. Soil forms at the surface of land consisting of minerals, organic matter, water, air and living organisms. It is a
complex and highly diverse living environment. Soil that
is considered to be a non-renewable natural resource
has numerous important purposes and functions according to the aspect of human society and natural environment.
In the first place, soil relates us to growing food and biomass as well as to forest management; however it has
also an important role in organic ciruclation serving as a
buffer, preserver and transformer. Soil binds and filters
water, carbon and nitrogen; has the ability to manage
pollution and destroy infectious agents. It is a living environment and a gene bank for a great number of various
species of micro-organisms and bacteria among which
only a few are known. In a post-industrial society, the
importance of soil is underestimated. It is a substance
with physical and chemical qualities, yet it has remained
unapparent in our everyday life. When talking about soil,
one cannot escape the topics of life and death. Soil connects the living and the dead, families and country, tells
about the biological inevitability of being a human.“
